An elevator pitch originally was a way to have a couple of sentences to say to a potential customer that you happen to meet.  It needs to be delivered in a casual, socially acceptable way that introduces you and your company in the natural context of a conversation.

Here are 8 tips so your listener wants more:

  1. Great elevator pitches for real estate professionals provide just enough information to intrigue the listener and spark a conversation.
  1. Write several different ones and have them memorized: 20 to 30 seconds.
  1. Practice them with friends or in front of the mirror. Say it over and over again and then you’ll know it well enough to improvise or vary it so it’s stays fresh.
  1. Since realtors are always looking for listings, the elevator pitch is not just for business. Real Estate Agents are never off duty, they are always building relationships with potential customers.
  1. Wait for the inquiry. You only use your elevator pitch when someone asks.  A good rule of thumb is to ask about the other person first.  If you lead with what you do, it can be a turn off.
  1. You are really selling yourself, not your agency. People want to know more about you before they become a customer, or ask you to list their house. Remember, people do business with people they know, like and trust.
  1. Serve, don’t sell. When you have the “How can I help you?” outlook on life, you become much more approachable and genuine than if you are always looking to close a sale or get a listing.
  1. Focus on the WHY. You are doing what you do because you help a lot of people with the biggest decision they will make in their lifetime.  When you do this, the business will naturally be attracted to you.
